Stages to my Final Piece - Ben Hedges

This is the start of my Final piece where i got landscapes of deserts, forests, roads and also objects like the cat and light bulb etc, i played around with these pictures to see what fit and what didnt and after a while i settled on where i like my pictures to be, after that i started to sketch it out.

The first sketch i did was a basic outline of all the objects in place, seeing if they fit and/or if they are the right size i want them to be and after i liked where they were and the size i added some detail to the drawing

i focused more on the foreground than the background at this stage because it was more complicated with the background and wanted to get the less complicated one done first, as you can see this is where i added shading to the whole image and all the fine details from the original pictures like the stones in the sand

Finally i started to work on the background and this is the part i was having trouble with since i couldnt find a way to draw the trees so it wrapped my head around that problem for a while, then i thought just leave them like that because i dont want my drawing to be too realistic and at first glance you can get that they are trees. After i did the trees i re-did the shading again but made it more harder so you can really see where the light is coming from and also played around with how i used my pencil to give different texture effects on the sand and shading. i didnt want to leave the sky blank so i shaded it in lightly and i during a mistake i had to rub it out and it gave a nice effect like lightning so i decided to use that for my picture. overall i keep discovering different ideas and techniques to use when i was working on it and im glad im gaining experience through working since i didnt think i would be able to do this at the start of this project.

Artists i found interesting - Mimi Revencu

Mimi Revencu

This is an artist I found looking through the internet for other artists, not much information about her but her paintings are something that attract my eye because they are very bright colors and that’s all she uses and simplistic in design but when you look close it is actually very ingenious like with this painting everything Is made from heart shapes, what relates this artist to our project for me is she makes up imaginary landscapes out of anything and at first you see it as some building surrounding by trees but then after a closer look you begin to notice the hearts and it becomes less real the more you delve into it but it just makes you want to look closer and that’s why I like her work since is quite basic but allots going on in it.

Artists i found interesting - Gordon Cheung

Gordon Cheung

  • contemporary artist
  • captures the mood of the global collapse of civilization where moral, economic, and environmental crises have spun out of control.
  • born 1975
what attracted me to this artist was a suggestion by the teachers and I searched him up and found his work interesting since it does show modern structures but they are being twisted in some way like this painting, it shows to me that the walls we have put up are broken down and that everything that we make is soon distorted into destruction also that we pollute everything and maybe even dont bother trying to tidy up. What makes his work relates to what I could do is the fact he gets typical object and just plays around with them a bit to convey a meaning behind them and also it fits my idea of ripping bits together and putting them together in a different but bizarre way.

Swoon

This was the artist I was telling you about in lesson.
I really like the decaying natural side to her work, juxtaposed with the graffiti and urban nature of it. Swoon creates these female characters out of everyday scene's, their clothing and bodies are made up of other illustrations. The girls are quite tranquil and angelic in their look and this is contrasted with the urban landscapes they are put on to. I really like this artist and I hope you guys all like her work too.
